# How it works

1. The text transcription service is found at [http://transcribe.nci.org.au]
    - You need an ANU account to access it.
2. It requires you to supply a file to be transcribed. This must be a have an extension of '.wav', 'ogg' or '.mp3'. You can browse for it or drag and drop it.
3. The file is assumed to be in English by default.  Other languages can be selected from the drop down menu. About 100 different languages are available. 
4. Press the upload button to process the file. The result will be emailed to your ANU account.

The process uses whisper to perform the transcription work.  (See [https://openai.com/index/whisper/] )
